Parco Solare Sud
Regione Calabria, Italy
A highly flexible and adaptable steel armature composed of continuous double spirals and intermittent rings acts as the unifying scaffold. Its sense of continuity gives architectural expression to the park's unique footprint. The armature is the highly visible and memorable signature design feature that will be seen from the air, land and sea. The armature holds various collector typologies, including PV panels, parabolic reflectors, and the latest prototypes by Parco Solare Sud scientists. Horizontal wind turbines exist were sun conditions are not optimal. 15m2 per LIN.m of surface area is available for sun collectors which produce 8MW: enough for 8000 homes. Former highway surface is now green corridor for enjoyment by pedestrians and cyclists.
